(More customer reviews)I recently used this item on a four day Elk Hunt in the Colorado Rockies. I am the kind of person who is "geographically challenged" and can get lost walking 10 feet into the woods. This is a "MUST HAVE" for anyone who ventures into the unknown.
It really does work!! It's provides Peace of Mind knowing that you'll never be lost again! I walked 3 to 5 miles daily into the uncharted woods and my Backtracker brought me right back to my parked pick-up every time. To demonstrate it's accuracy - I followed it's directional arrow back to my truck. When I was standing at my rear bumper, it indicated that my pick-up was still TWO FEET away. That kind of accuracy (or lack thereof) I'll take any day of the week.
Some Helpful Hints when using your Backtracker that's not covered in the instruction manual:
1). When you turn your unit on, DO NOT Press the button to "lock" your location UNTIL the BLINKING satellite stays ON. Now press your "locate" button. While the satellite is blinking - this tells you that the satellite has not locked in on your exact location yet, just wait for the blinking to stop.
2). As you start walking, you will notice the distance start to add up. After a couple of minutes, you'll discover the screen has gone "BLANK", like the unit has been shut off. DO NOT PANIC, your Backtracker just went to Power Save Mode. Just depress your left button again and the screen will continue where it left off.
