(More customer reviews)I've now had this little guy for a year and with the exception of the green transducer dying in the first week (replaced immediately by Humminbird), it works like a charm. It's been in both frest and salt water repeatedly without a hiccup. I've had it in as much as 60 feet with fairly good resolution, discerning between weeds, rocks and fish
well for the price. Great little unit for the money, for sure-especially if you have a kayak like me. You won't be disappointed.

The Humminbird Smartcast RF25 is a fishfinder designed for the recreational angler ready for a step up from traditional fishing and offers an unmatched level of convenience. This fishfinder may be small, but it has plenty of built-in capabilities, and can provide you with the ultimate in portable sonar in a simple, rugged package that mounts directly on your fishing pole.
The Smartcast RF25 utilizes a traditional, single-beam 90-degree sonar to deliver ultra-wide coverage equal to twice the water depth up to 120 feet deep. The RSS includes water surface temperature, typically lasts for 500 hours of in-the-water usage, and allows you to purchase replacements that are available on the manufacturer's web site, as well as at your local tackle dealer and major outdoor retailers. The Smartcast RF25 features one-touch menu navigation that allows you to easily control FishID+, depth range, fish alarm, and sensitivity, as well as Wet Switch technology that maximizes battery life by automatically shutting down when the Advanced RSS is out of the water. These fish finders work great, amazing clarity. Easy to find menu operations, it also works with my Garmin GPS, which is another added benefit. Screen is visible in all light. I also like to be able to identify the size of fish under the boat, whether it be herring balls or candle fish on the bottom, it's all quite detailed. This also is the first fishfinder that I've owned that has water temperature, as I've learned the fish are particular about shade and water temperature. More fish in the boat because of it.

(More customer reviews)I didn't expect much for the price I paid, but was pleasently surprised. The screen is very easy to read, and the automatic features actually work without being fine tuned. Far and away the nicest feature about this unit is the dual beam transducer. It has great accuracy not only under the boat, but off to the sides. Lastly the option of mounting the transducer to the trolling motor without having to buy an adapter was icing on the cake.

Garmin Fishfinder 90 with Dual-Beam Transducer Review

(More customer reviews)Purchased this fishfinder on Amazon with $30 off when opened Amazon credit card. Installation was pretty easy, everything I needed was in a box. Took the boat out the next day on Wye River in MD, worked pretty well for me: showed water temperature at 80 degrees, finally warm! the depth gauge was pretty accurate too. I measured the depth with a pole and compared with Garmin and the accuracy was within 0.5 inches! I bought this unit because I had a budget under $100, but was looking for one that warns when the water is shallow and it also has a dual beam (you can set a narrow beam for more depth and accuracy or wider beam for greater coverage). The screen is big and clear, even in the sun thanks to a special anti-reflective coating, pretty easy to navigate through the menu, no need to load anything as this is NOT a marine GPS unit. Fish finding feature was neat (was assuring to see big and little fish on the screen). I think the manual stated the images on the screen had up to 5 seconds delay. Still not bad if you do not go too fast. I was crabbing that day, so cannot really tell if it helps you catch fish, but the images were definately clear on the screen. I did not get a portable hardware, but unless you switch between boats you do not really need it. I simply take the unit off the holder when park the boat, so it does not get wet/hot/stollen. The holder has a swiwel feature, so you can adjust it to whatever angle you like and then secure in that position. It also beeps when there is a school of fish nearby. I saw circles in the water and fish jumping, then Garmin started beeping, so it definately knows where the fish is. In overall, I think if you need a basic unit that warns you of water depth (you can set it to beep when it is less than X feet), shows where the fish is (including the depth where the fish is), and water temperature you will be happy with Garmin 90. It might not have a touch screen or complex menu options, but it definately does the trick for a lot less $. But if you also need a GPS feature, look into more expensive ones.
