I have a Garmin 76CSx which I use for boating and have been generally happy with it. The biggest complaint I have about the 76CSx is the method of inputting info. So when I saw the 400c with a direct touch screen, I thought it would be a super unit to replace the 76CSx.
WRONG !!! Anyone who knows anything about boating knows that one of the most important pieces of information on a chart is the Buoy/Marker numbers.
The Oregon 400c DOES NOT SHOW THE BUOY NUMBERS ! How can one safely navigate thru the waterways without the Buoy/Markers numbers for reference. That is as bad as if they had left out the depth soundings.
You can get info on the Buoy only if you use the "Push Pin" and hover above that particular Bouy/Marker. Well.... who has time for that while you're navigating a vessel thru a channel ?
Can you imagine trying to use a Garmin automotive GPS to go from one point to the other without having any of the Street/Road/Highway names ?
The 400c is only good as a toy as one other reviewer mentioned.
How can Garmin be so stupid as to leave off one of the most important pieces of chart information on the unit ?
I exchanged several emails with Garmin Tech Support and thier response was that users comlained that the screen was too cluttered.
TOO CLUTTERED ? If users want to de-clutter their scrren they can adjust the setting to display "Less, More or Most" in the details menu.
Garmin should be ashamed of themselves for leaving out this necessary navigational information.
Do NOT waste your money.
