It does charge. However you cannot use thg GPS to navigate. When you plug it in it goes into data transfer mode, as if you plugged it in via usb to your computer. The the thought was it would charge while operating the GPS to navigate.

I thought this would include a interface to connect directly to my old TomTom 910. The mount I have for that TomTom will not charge it. Turns out it was just a plug in to a car lighter and a plug into the mount that I already have that does not work. It is not worth my time to send it back so it will be thrown into the drawer with all the other useless power cords I have that serve no purpose.
