I am not happy with the quality of the device, as the plastic where it rotates got cracked on the very first day of usage. It is still usable but it is a bit loose.
The good thing about this product is that it does the job for the price of $10-15

Powered Pda Mount for Dell Axim X50/X50V Review

Powered Pda Mount for Dell Axim X50/X50V
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this for six months and it's trashed. This isn't a high end mount, or at least I hope others are better.
Let's start with the good: The power connector is tight and holds on well to the various sockets and adapters I've tried it with. It's easy enough to conenct the PDA and the power and audio connectors are a convenient length and a positive fit. The adjustment for angle is quite easy, though bending the gooseneck makes it feel like it's going to break, but it didn't. The Suction mount gets an adequate hold and it never fell off. The built in speaker is OK.
The bad: The clamps are poorly made, they have enough grip but the teeth are poor quality plastic. The power connector for the GPS is a poor fit, the plug is longer than the socket, so there's always bare metal sticking out. The cradle is not positively attached to the rest of the mount, I don't think I ever tried to remove it, but if it is angled over too far it starts to slide off.
It's not usually possible to see the power light, but then that's just as well because it would just be a distraction.
And finally, after six month the ratchet teeth have broken, so it doesn't grip the PDA any more and is effectively useless.
Making a ratchet mechanism that can hold the PDA without wearing out in, probably, less than 100 cycles (I don't use it every day) is not high grade engineering. This is a poorly built product. If you buy it bear in mind you'll need another one in a few months.

Scosche IUH3 Mobile Grip-IT Swivel Mount Kit (Black) Review

Scosche IUH3 Mobile Grip-IT Swivel Mount Kit (Black)

I bought this to mount an external XM radio in my car. My sister has one for her Garmin, and loves it, so I thought I'd try it myself. I've had it for only a few days, and it works, but one of the spring loaded clamps comes apart everytime I try to move the mount or simply remove the XM radio from the mount to hide it when parked. Spring goes flying, and more than once I thought I'd lost it for good...It does work without that spring (the other clamp has never come apart and is nice and tight), but then the whole thing flops a little. Also, the bracket itself is large and bulky, so I ended up removing the bracket and mounting the XM radio directly to the face of the mount - the back of the XM radio has a mounting peg that fits the notch on the mount face nice and tight. Works great, less bulk and less intrusive. Still have the spring problem though...Should have bought a vent mount specifically for XM radios. Wouldn't have ended up with a useless bracket, and possibly would have a better clamp design than the spring loaded one. The bracket itself seems nice and well made (I like the button used to control the width of the clamps), but it was too bulky for my situation. I'll keep this mount for now because so far it hasn't fallen off the vent (even with the one spring missing), but should that happen, I'll be in the market for something else (without springs!).

Bracketron PHM-201-BL Mobile Device Vent Mount Kit Review

Bracketron PHM-201-BL Mobile Device Vent Mount Kit

(More customer reviews)
I've been using this for over six months and I still think it's the best way to mount my phone in a vehicle. I've used it in an Escalade and an Accord, and it fit fine in both. The only problem is that over time the vent clips begin to sag, and that allows the whole thing to come off quite easily, sometimes even during a turn. As a solution I rotated the vent clips 180 degrees, so that they're mounted effectively upside down. Surprisingly, this has worked out quite well for me.
When using this with the Droid Incredible or other phone with a power cord that attaches to the side, you'll need to install the side supports upside down. There's a little plastic ridge on one of the side supports that is supposed to keep the device from slipping down, but there's enough friction from the side supports that it's not necessary. In this alternate configuration the phone hangs down a bit below the mount so that I can plug in my charger to the side. It works fine this way.

Magellan RoadMate 3050T 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Magellan RoadMate 3050T 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
See update at end..
I purchased this unit, the Magellan RoadMate 3050T, which is the 3000T, but with the receiver for Traffic-enabled info. For what I paid for this unit and the features it has, I believe it to be a very good deal.
The windshield suction cup mount works ok, but I wish it was a little stiffer. On bumpy roads the GPS can bounce up and down a little. With the unit mounted, the first time I tried to power it up I thought I got a bum unit. You have to hold the power on button for up to 15 seconds the first time, about 3 seconds after the first to have it spring to life. I think Magellan should state this right on the plastic protection sheet they have on the face of the unit. It would have saved me some startup anxiety.
Once I got it working it zeroed in on the satellites very quickly. In the windshield mount, the gps maintains an excellent signal. In fact, much better then my Garmin Maps 76S. Even with heavy over cast and in tree cover I have full signal bars on the upper right of the display.
Speaking display, this unit is very bright, even in full sun. In fact, at night, with the brightness turned all the way down, it is a little brighter then I really like.
The display makes use of a lot of icons. I had to breakout the manual to figure what some of them meant.
I am a stickler for wanting to know what direction I'm traveling. I planned to purchase the Garmin Streetpilot C550. I changed my mind after finding the Garmin does not display the normal compass heading on the main map display. The Magellan 3000T displays the heading full time in the map mode in the lower left corner. It uses the N, NE, E, SE, SW, W, NW headings.
A very good sounding lady gives voice directions. It is very clear, and volume level is also very good. This unit does not have the "text to speech". However, after using the Magellan 3000T, I really don't care that it doesn't speak the road name. What it will do is tell you when a turn is coming up and which direction you will need to turn and on the display it gives you the name of the street. The directions are clear and understandable leaving no doubt what you need to do. The maps are from Navteq. I feel Navteq is the best out there.
Update speed of this unit is very good. The display refreshes quickly and I never feel it is lagging behind. The route calculator waste no time as well. Most route calculations take less then 5 seconds to complete.
With the TrafficKit, this gps can find you a way around most traffic flow issues like slowdowns, accidents, construction, and other reasons. Around the metro Detroit area it seems to work pretty well. However, on a trip up north, it didn't work as well. I believe this to be more of an issue with the service provider then a problem with the gps. I'm sure with time this will improve. One detour it took me on saved us over an hour in stop and go traffic with just a few miles added to the distance. For one year of service it cost about $60. I don't like how the TrafficKit attaches to the gps. The cables end up going all over the place and the antenna for the receiver is long. Seems they could have come up with a better design. I ended up leave the antenna lying on the dash. It just looks messy.
The software that comes with the unit seems a little lame to me. You really can't do much with it. I wanted to be able to download the trip computer to my laptop. I have not found a way to do this. I'll be calling tech support to see if I'm missing something.
I have not tried the mp3 player or picture functions as I really don't care to have pictures on the unit. I'll try the mp3 in the near future.
For me, this unit is a keeper.
Pros: Easy to see, easy to use once I learned the system, pleasant command voice, easy to remove and install into its mount, you have a choice of using the touch screen or navigation buttons.
Cons: Power-on confusing the first time I used it, trafic receiver attachment messy, I had to upgrade the firmware to bring it up to date (no big deal though)
Update as of 12-20-06
Cons and Pro addition to date: Can't use the MP3 player at the same time as navigating. POI database is wrong for southern Florida areas. Items in the database not where the gps shows they are in the state of Florida. POI very good for Michigan. All in all I still like this unit and find it as good or better then other brands in the same price range on the market.
The traffic alert system works fine when it has a signal, but the info being fed to it is out of date/time and not many areas have reporting. This is a disappointment. I will not renew the subscription until I hear they have improved the service.

Garmin aera 500 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS (Americas) Review

Garmin aera 500 Color Touchscreen Aviation GPS (Americas)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The adjustable back lighting is great. One of the brightest displays seen in full sun. Found it to be very easy and intuitive to use. Although there were some changes buried deep withing that were a surprise. Love the yoke mount and car mounts. Both worked great for me. Love the single power cord. Very clean setuup. The unit is packed with features and can manupulate many of the fuctions to your liking. The size is just about right for the way it will be used. Has a good decent manual. Super easy to unclip from the mounts so you can prevent theft. Bluetooth available for vehicle use (but not why flying).
This device uses the inferior resistive touchscreen technology with a too-large bezel that makes it impossible to touch anything near the sides of the screen. The effect is that the touchable area of the buttons that hug the right side of the screen in map view are significantly reduced. Even after a calibration, I would regularly miss these buttons. The cursor simply wouldn't go as far to the right as my finger asked it to. Another problem related to the touch screen is with dragging the map in any direction. It was a frustrating experience, as the device would detect my finger at times and ignore it at other times. The touchscreen's lack of sensitivity is frustrating when entering numbers, letters etc. I wish they would using capacitive touchscreen (like the iPhone). Using the flight planner for me was cumbersome. And it is difficult to enter your own waypoints accurately due to the small screen size and lack of terrian detail. But the task can be accomplished. Battery life is an issue, but that was known before hand. I always use the plug-in power. I think this product should come with a means to plug it into 110v for charging purposes. It is an after purchase option. The vehicle mode was a little disappointing. I really liked the idea to have dual GPS capabilities, flying and vehicle travel. But the sophistication level for driving just isn't any better than whats been out there for years now. Two features I immediately found lacking were a nearest airport function in case of engine loss, and the ability to navigate to a point I touched on the map screen. To perform either function, you must exit the moving map and enter the Direct to menu.
Overall other than the unresponsive touchscreen, I am very pleased with what I mainly purchased this unit for: Flying. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but so far (Knock on wood), I haven't had any issues with it at all after about 30 hours of flying with this unit.

Garmin's aera series of dual-duty GPS portables offer easy transition from flying to motoring--by combining the best in moving-map display features with intuitive, menu-driven touchscreen control. With aera, fingertip navigation has entered a whole new era: One that streamlines operation. Eliminates knobs and buttons. Simplifies the pilot/motorist interface. And lets you think in terms of door-to-door guidance, not just runway-to-runway.

The Garmin aera 500 There are four aera models in the Garmin lineup, offering a full range of cost/capability choices. The first and most affordable unit in the series is the aera 500. Featuring a crisp 4.3-inch QVGA wide-format touchscreen and pre-loaded graphical mapping, this versatile, feature-rich unit comes ready for takeoff, right out of the box.

Fly Anywhere In aviation mode, the aera 500's detailed chart-style shaded mapping and extensive terrain and aviation databases help you visualize your flight path in relation to nearby navaids, terrain, SUAs, obstructions, and so on. To help keep pilots aware of special airspace activity, over 683 parachute drop zones are detailed in the Americas navigation database. Plus, the addition of private airports and heliports to the database affords even more navigation and emergency nearest" options. A database-driven terrain advisory feature offers TAWS-like color coding and pop-up alerts when possible obstructions or ground proximity conflicts loom ahead. And with terrain/obstacle data shown at standard 30 arc-second resolution, you'll enjoy a surprising level of detail on the display. The unit's graphical Terrain page offers both overhead and vertical profile views of the topography you're flying over. What's more, there's an IFR map mode that lets you display and navigate on high or low enroute airways. You can also pull up MEAs (Minimum Enroute Altitudes) and distances between intersections by touching the airway on the map. As in all the aera models, GPS updating is provided at a super-fast 5 Hz rate. And for added safety, an optional power/data cable (sold separately) makes it easy to interface your aera 500 with the Garmin GTX 330 Mode S transponder in your aircraft, so you can access and display TIS traffic alerts in busy terminal airspace. What's more, you can also use the aera to load communications frequencies into your Garmin SL 40 Comm or SL 30 Nav/Comm transceiver.

Built to Fly, Born to Run Once your aircraft returns to terra firma, the fun of aera navigation continues with full automotive GPS capability and preloaded City Navigator NT street mapping. Operating much like Garmin's popular nvi line of touchscreen auto navigators, your aera 500 offers voice-guided turn-by-turn directions with text-to-speech audio technology that calls out streets by name. In addition, there's built-in Bluetooth support for wireless hands-free calling with your compatible mobile phone. And the aera's built-in points of interest" database offers helpful guidance to millions of motels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and other local attractions. To further speed your transition from aircraft to automotive mode, a unique "smart mount" for the aera offers instant clip-and-go car navigation.

About the Jeppesen Database The aera includes an internal Jeppesen database that provides location and facility information for thousands of airports, VORs, NDBs, and more. Updates to the Jeppesen database are available every 28 days online, and the database includes the following information:

Airport--identifier, facility name, city/state/country, latitude/longitude, field elevation, available fuel types, runway designations and layout, runway surface, runway length, runway width, runway lighting, communication frequencies, and published approaches.
Weather--frequencies associated with an airport (ASOS, ATIS, and AWOS).
VORs--identifier, facility name, city/state/country, location (latitude/longitude), frequency, service volume (high, low, terminal), and type (such as VOR-DME, TACAN, and VORTAC).
NDBs--identifier, facility name, city/state/country, location (latitude/longitude), and frequency.
Intersections--identifier, nearest VOR, radial and distance from nearest VOR, location (latitude/longitude), and region/country.
ARTCC--Air Route Traffic Control Centers.
Airspace--boundaries (Class B, Class C, Control Zones, SUAs, and MOAs), controlling agency, and vertical boundaries.
FSS--Flight Service Stations.

Americas Terrain Database Enhance situational awareness with the Terrain Aviation Database. This digital database contains the elevation data which represents the topography of the earth. Using this information, your Garmin aviation GPS monitors your current position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide alerts--giving you additional time to make critical decisions regarding the flight path. Since Terrain data does not include man-made objects (towers, airports, VORs etc.), updates to Terrain data do not occur on a regular basis.

The download process for Terrain updates is simple and convenient. Simply plug in your aviation device, download and go.

Garmin StreetPilot 2610 3.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Garmin StreetPilot 2610 3.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Garmin 2610 (US version) as an upgrade to my Garmin GPS V. Although I was extremely pleased with the GPS V, there were a number of things that needed improvement - the size of the memory, the monochrome screen, the speed of the processor (both in calculating routes and in refreshing the map display). All of these plus more have been fixed in the 2610.
The Garmin GPS 2610 is designed as an in car navigation system. It is not suitable for other uses such as hiking as it requires either a mains (110V) or 12VDC cigarette lighter power source. The unit accepts map data from the included CDROM based software - access to a PC is essential. THe US version comes with 128Mb memory. I expanded this immediately to 256Mb but 128Mb is still pretty good. I found 256 was enough for most of the NE US in a recent road trip (VA, PA, MD, NY, VT, NH, NJ, ME). Uploading from the computer is reasonable fast (30-45 minutes). It is much faster if a dedicated USB 2.0 reader/writer is usd rather than the connection to the GPS unit directly.
The unit is easy to use - my wife finds it considerably easier than the GPS V to enter addresses and find local points of interest such as restaurants and gas stations. Route calculation is very fast - normally a matter of seconds and screen redraw is also virtually instantaneous when zooming or panning. Unlike the old GPS V, I have yet to see a
lock up or time where the unit doesn't give turn notice quickly enough. The spoken directions are very clear to my pleasant surprise as I thought they were going to be somewhat of a novelty. The quality of the routes are generally good - there is the odd time when I would choose a different route based off my personal experience but in general, I find the unit's routes are as good as what I could come up with when I'm in strange territory.
The screen is very clear in all weather and level of light (including with sunglasses). The 'bean bag' friction mount is also very good in the cars I have tried (hondas and fords) and holds the unit steady without any glue or other adhesive.
A couple of smaller enhancements make the experience much more enjoyable than the GPS V. Automatic zoom in/out where the unit will change the map scale based off how close you are to the next turn is wonderful. The touch screen is much better than the buttons (although we sometimes find a PDA pointer makes it even easier to use).
My only slight irritations are that the tabs indicating various information on the map screen (speed, distance to turn, time to destintation etc) aren't completely intuitive to modify and not as many options are available as on the GPS V (altitude is the key one as I am strangely interested in how high I am when driving through mountains). The information is all there on other screens of the unit but just isn't available on the tabs. The map software included with the unit seems to have many more rural roads than the software included in the GPS V although we noticed that it didn't have all the points of interest in it (we found more gas stations than the software knew about for instance).
All in all, an excellent unit that offers clear navigation in a well made and easy to use product. Remember to download the latest software updates from Garmin as they are well worth the effort to fix the odd software glitch or give you a new enhancement (even if you didn't know about them/want them beforehand!)
The following link gives an excellent review on the product: .......
All in all, a great product giving very clear instructions and good quality routes.

Newly simplified for automotive applications, Garmin's portable StreetPilot 2610 features both a touchscreen and an alphanumeric remote control so you'll always have easy access to automatic route calculations, helpful turn-by-turn directions, and guiding voice prompts. The 2610 offers a color display, built-in maps, and everything you need to download additional map detail. It offers more precise location finding because of its WAAS technology, a feature the original StreetPilot and the StreetPilot III lacked.
With its built-in photo sensor, the StreetPilot 2610's bright display automatically adjusts to outside light conditions. The unit is powered through either its external speaker (which comes with a handy 12/24-volt adapter cable) or its dedicated AC power adapter; both are supplied.
The unit's built-in routable basemap covers North and South America and contains a wealth of practical and nuanced data, including state and country boundaries, lakes, rivers, streams, airports, cities, towns, coastlines, state and interstate highways, local thoroughfares, secondary roads within metro areas, and interstate exit information for services such as gas, food, and lodging.
The 2610 accepts downloadable map detail from Garmin's PC-based MapSource City Navigator DVD-ROM (included), which provides street-level detail, addresses, and listings of nearby restaurants, hotels, ATMs, and other attractions. (This feature requires a CompactFlash card, and a 128 MB CF card is included; you must first downloaded MapSource data in order to find points of interest and addresses.)
The StreetPilot's integrated dash-mounting system fosters easy adjustment and quick release. The unit comes with a built-in patch antenna and an MCX-type connector for attachment to an optional external GPS antenna.
Garmin makes accessories to help you integrate your GPS unit with your life and your priorities. Keep it at the ready while protecting it from knocks and bumps with a carrying case that has space for your hookup cable and remote control. In the car, you'll appreciate the mounting options and clear reception afforded by the magnetic/suction-mount antenna that'll give you a better signal than if you just place your unit on the dash. Using your system in more than one vehicle? Garmin's dashmount is just the ticket, providing one temporary and one permanent adhesive mounting disc so you can move the unit between your cars.
What's in the Box The StreetPilot 2610, the MapSource City Navigator DVD-ROM (full U.S. plus select Canadian coverage; unlock included), a 128 MB CompactFlash memory card, an integrated dash mount, a portable beanbag mount (friction mount), an external speaker with a 12/24-volt adapter cable, an AC power adapter, a PC/USB interface cable, an alphanumeric remote control, an owner's manual, a quick-reference guide, and a setup guide.

Arkon CM910 Universal PDA Mount Bundle Review

Arkon CM910 Universal PDA Mount Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This kit provides three methods for mounting your phone / pda in your car. If you aren't sure which will suit best, the few extra dollars to have all three in one kit are probably worth it. Overall this is a solid system at a good price, although there are a few easy but significant design improvements waiting to be made.
***The core of the system is the PDA CRADLE itself, which clamps a wide range of devices securely, yet is easy to release. I do not worry about my device shaking loose, even over rough roads. The cradle attaches to the car via either the windshield mount, the dash mount, or the vent mount.
***The WINDSHIELD AND DASH MOUNTS are the same flexible arm. The arm attaches directly to glass with a large, powerful suction pad. Attachment to the dash requires first applying a self-adhesive disk to the point on the dash you want as your base and then using the suction pad to attach the arm to the disk. Choose your spot carefully as the disk is not easily removed once applied. Though the arm provides a solid base when attached, it is difficult to situate it unobtrusively. The flexibility of the arm is quite limited so that it is impossible to mount low on the sloping windshield of most cars, whereas mounting it high enough to avoid the dash presents a significant obstruction to your view of the road.
***The VENT MOUNT is a lighter and more portable solution. It is primarily designed to clip to horizontal vent louvers, for cars with more esoteric vent designs it might not be an option. It can be a little fiddly to install, and even more fiddly to remove but, depending on the location of your vents, it can provide a good compromise of keeping your device near the instruments for head (almost) up GPS navigation without obscuring your view of the road. The swivel feature makes it easy to adjust the angle of your device display for easier viewing or to alternate between driver and passenger using the device.

Works as expected, but the strange orientation of the micro USB cable (should be straight down out of the Oregon, or toward the back, NOT toward the front) is puzzling.

Delphi NAV200 GPS Navigation System - NAV20000-11B1 Review

Delphi NAV200 GPS Navigation System - NAV20000-11B1
Average Reviews:

I bought this item about a month ago and find it very useful. I live in Los Angeles so a GPS system is very helpful finding my way around. I agree with another reviewer that the load time is a bit slow, but nothing that would cause me to have an issue with it. The maps themselves are Navtech maps and are used in the majority of preinstalled GPS systems of major car makers. There are several options with the 'advanced' mode and the basic mode offers simple navigation tools. I would recommend this to anyone considering a GPS system who doesn't want to spend over $500.

Featuring voice guided directions using built-in speakers; a fast 400 MHz processor; a high sensitivity, SiRFstart III GPS antenna; and a compact, pocket-friendly design; the one-inch thick Delphi NAV200 GPS navigation system is a great choice when you want powerful GPS navigation at your fingertips. Flexible and versatile, this system also lets you take advantage of entertainment features in the back seat, at home, or on the go; simply use the three hour, built-in, rechargeable battery.
The NAV200's 3.5-inch, anti-glare display supports a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, giving you plenty of real estate to view the road ahead and control the device's functions via the touchscreen interface. A powerful processor quickly calculates your route using one of the most trusted mapping databases in the industry. The included 1.5 GB SD card comes preloaded with NAVTEQ maps of the U.S. and Canada. Useful and fun extras include an MP3 music player for listening to your favorite songs as you drive, a picture viewer, a movie player, a game (Othello), a world clock, and a calculator. The unit is also RDS real-time traffic ready, meaning that with the purchase of an optional TMC FM radio antenna and service, you can receive up to the minute traffic conditions along your route.
A colorful, easy-to-read user interface makes navigation a snap. Large icons help you control the unit with just a glance, and a 3D map view keeps you on top of upcoming maneuvers. Meanwhile, clear voice prompts help you keep your eyes on the road.
Installation of the NAV200 is easy, too, thanks to the suction goose-neck windshield mount. When it's time to move the NAV200, it dismounts quickly and easily, so you can take it for a walk through town or in and out of your rental car.
What's in the Box NAV200 GPS unit, cigarette lighter adapter, windshield mount, dashboard mount, stylus pen, DVD with user's manual and backup map data files, SD card (1.5 GB) preloaded U.S. and Canada map, quick start guide, and customer service card.

Bracketron PHV-200-BL Grip-iT Mobile Device Holder (Black) Review

Bracketron PHV-200-BL Grip-iT Mobile Device Holder (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I read a review by someone who purchased this item since they didn't want to use the suction cup. They wanted something easy to remove so no one would know a GPS was being used in the car. I wanted it so I could mount it closer to me so I could take advantage of the bluetooth (hands free phone). This device, once put in the air vent is difficult to remove. As a matter of fact, there is still one prong stuck in my air vent after I removed the unit. I wanted to use it with a Garmin nuvi 275T. The location of the plug for the Garmin is in the rear. When you plug in the wire it sticks out the back. You cannot fully mount the Garmin unit in the holder. It is biased to the right which adds a little difficulty when viewing your GPS. Also, this is not a problem with the unit per se, but if your vent is angled in a direction which makes viewing difficult, you will be disappointed. The only adjustment on the unit is the 360 degree rotation. If you need to adjust it in any other position, you're out of luck.

Bracketron PHV-202-BL Grip-iT GPS and Mobile Device Holder (Black) Review

Bracketron PHV-202-BL Grip-iT GPS and Mobile Device Holder (Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased this Grip-iT holder to use with my iPhone 3g. It is great built quality and installs very easily into the air vent in my car. It seems to be pretty sturdy and holds the iPhone 3g very nicely without any fear of it falling out. The bottom fold out brace bars are adjustable which is good for the iphone since you will want to move them from blocking the speakers. I am very happy with my purchase!
So here is the only negative or flaw in this design for me. Although the Grip-iT mount has a very nice adjustable rotating ball mount that allows you to turn your device from portrait to landscape and "fine tune" the angle, it is a very manual process. Other car mounts like the Kensington mounts have a rotating holder that clicks into pre set angles but is very easily done even while driving. The Grip-iT require that you make your adjustment and then lock it into place by tightening a large finger adjustable "nut" behind your device. This requires 2 hands...one to hold your device in place and the other to tighten the mount. I don't recommend doing this while driving. This flaw would really only apply to devices that can work in landscape and portrait modes. Since I use a GPS app on my iPhone I want to flip the phone to landscape on the fly. This is not possible with this Grip-iT mount.
Over all it satisfies 99% of my requirements! For the price, I can't find a better value!

GPS Head-Up Vehicle Speed Display Review

GPS Head-Up Vehicle Speed Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this HUD for my Camry after I almost rear-ended another car on the freeway while looking down at the speedometer. Here's my impression of it. I hope some of you find it helpful!
Appearance/Construction - The device is small, light and portable. The plastic case feels sturdy and durable.
Installation - The HUD is ready to use right out of the box. Powering up the unit is simple. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and powers on and off with the car. Just be sure to set the display to "MPH" rather the "KPH" (kilometers per hour). The anti-slip mat that comes with the device is very effective. I've been using the device for two weeks, it has never slipped off the pad.
The included display film is *very* sticky, so be careful when putting it onto your windshield. Make sure you have plenty of water on the windshield before putting the film on it, so you can slide the film to where you like before allowing it to set. This process takes some skill... I decided ultimately not to use the film, because the device projects a very clear, illuminated, digital readout directly on the glass windshield - even in daylight.
Operation - The included user's guide wasn't well-written, but the device is really easy to use. I threw my manual away. If you are one of those people who can't figure out how to use a microwave, the seller has some easy-to-understand instructions under "Product Description" on Amazon's website. When turned on, the unit takes about 30-seconds to get a satellite fix. After it started displaying my car's speed, I found that the displayed speed lagged the car's speedometer by a second or so when accelerating or braking suddenly.
Ergonomics - The sticky film (for displaying the HUD on the windshield) is tricky. Again, the digital, illuminated display looks great on the windshield without the film - even in broad daylight. The adjustable "speeding alarm" is awesome. However, the audible alarm is a little on the loud side for me, so I set the warning speed fairly high - about 10 MPH above the legal limit of 65-MPH on California freeways.
I am very happy with this neat product. I think a HUD speedometer is a much safer way to check one's speed compared to looking down at the speedometer. After my dad got two speeding tickets recently, I decided to purchase another one as a bday gift.

Drive safely by not taking your eyes off the road to look down at the speedometer. This GPS Head-Up Speed Display projects your speed right on the windshield. You may also set overspeed warning with the touch of a button. When the preset speed limit is exceeded, a visual indicator lights up and an optional alarm beeps (for up to 15 seconds) to remind you of the speed limit.

At 65 mph, looking down for one second to check the speedometer means driving blind for 95 feet. Many accidents start during the time a driver glances down and fails to see sudden traffic changes ahead. Now, drive safety by never looking down to check speed again with this Head-Up Display.

The unit also works as a GPS receiver for the navigation program on your handheld device or portable computer, through the USB cable or Bluetooth pairing.

Garmin Oregon 550T 3-Inch Handheld GPS Navigator with 3.2MP Digital Camera (U.S. Topographic Maps) Review

Garmin Oregon 550T 3-Inch Handheld GPS Navigator with 3.2MP Digital Camera (U.S. Topographic Maps)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After using the 550t for several weeks, I find the unit good but not perfect. It still has some issues, one of which I have been in touch with Garmin over. The main issue I have is it will periodically corrupt the track file and stop showing the tracks on the map or allowing for elevation plots on the tracks. The only way to clear it is to attach the unit to a computer and replace the track file with a new one from the computer.
The compass sometimes loses it's way and needs to be recalibrated.
I have not had an issue with the accuracy under tree cover, that some have reported, but I have had a few tracks that were not 100% accurate. Walking on known roads, it will be several 100 feet off in some cases. I am not sure if this is an issue with the preloaded Topo 2008 maps, or the unit's accuracy.
I love the camera and the tagging of each photo.
For a new unit, it is not bad, but it still shows a few rough edges.
Just an update - After comparing the tracks for accuracy, I found it was the 2008 Topo maps that were off. When superimposed over the City Navigator NT 2009 Street maps, the 550t was dead on. So the accuracy concerns I have are shifted from the 550t itself to the topo maps it comes loaded with.
